Jessica Dowdy is a Director of Melville, Orton & Lewis and experienced litigation and dispute resolution solicitor, practicing primarily in the areas of family law, intervention orders, criminal law, child protection and civil law.
Jessica completed a Bachelor of Laws at Adelaide University in 2009, followed by a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the Law Society of South Australia in 2009. She was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of South Australia in 2009. She signed the High Court of Australia Roll in the same year.
Although based in Hamilton, Jessica regularly appears at mediations and before the Courts in Hamilton, Warrnambool, Portland, Horsham and Ararat. Jessica strongly and passionately advocates for clients from all backgrounds including those which are privately or Legal Aid funded.
Jessica is at the forefront of legal developments in Victoria, having recently been re-elected by her peers as the President of the Western District Law Association and also is a member of several legal advisory groups, including the Law Institute of Victoria’s Regional Lawyer’s Reference Group and the Steering Committee for the Barwon South-West Family Law Pathways Network.
Jessica is actively involved with the local business community and has been again re-elected as a Committee Member with the Hamilton Regional Business Association.
When possible, Jessica also enjoys returning to her family’s property near Naracoorte as frequently as possible to assist with the family’s farming enterprise and stud sheep business. With Jessica’s personal background she often takes particularly keen interest in matters with a small business or farming element.
